A certification is not a campaign

Four days to see what actually changes inside a company that gets certified, and how a certification is told apart from an advertising campaign that talks about the same thing. You look at the documents, not at the slogans.

Atmosphere image. It does not portray a site of the Istituto or a stop on the program.

Itinerary day by day

Day 1 — Valdagno. A company that publishes its available places

In the morning, Museo Zordan, on via Attilio Zordan. It is the museum of a retail design company certified as a B Corp, open by booking only and in slots of about ninety minutes. It is the only site in the whole catalog that publishes how many places are left in each slot, and it is also the reason this day is booked before all the others.

You look at what the company had to change in order to obtain and keep the certification: suppliers, materials, contracts, measurements.

In the afternoon, a two-hour working session: separating, in a real sustainability document, the verifiable claims from the ones that are not.

Day 2 — Stra. A district museum inside a villa

In the morning, the Museo della Calzatura at Villa Foscarini Rossi. It tells the story of the footwear district of the Riviera del Brenta, that is to say the factories that produce for the European houses without appearing on the product. It is the exact reverse of the lesson on the brand: here you look at the people who manufacture and do not appear. The museum takes groups on a guided visit by booking, and closes at weekends out of season and from 10 to 21 August.

In the afternoon, a two-hour working session.

Day 3 — Conegliano. Two archives and a question about time

In the morning, Museo del Caffè Dersut: a roasting company with a museum of its own.

In the afternoon, Museo della Chiave Bianchi 1770: a lock company in business since the eighteenth century with a collection of its own. The channel for this second site has to be requested from the secretariat of the association of company museums: the company's own site does not answer. Until it does, the day stands on a single site and the program says so.

Day 4 — The comparison and the closing

In the morning, team work. A matrix is built for assessing a sustainability statement: what it has to contain for a purchasing department to take it as evidence and not as a promise.

In the afternoon, eight-minute presentations and discussion.

What is included and what is not

Included: admissions and guided visits to the confirmed sites, the booking and coordination with whoever receives the group, three working sessions totalling six hours, the materials, one person from the Istituto with the group throughout the experience and the certificate of participation in the experience. Not included: flight, transfers to and from the airport, travel between the three towns, lodging, meals, personal travel insurance.

The season, and why

You travel from March to June and from September to November.

January and February are out: these are three provincial towns and in winter the openings thin out, which on a route that already has few available slots is the final blow.

August is out, and in this case with an exact date: the Museo della Calzatura closes from 10 to 21 August.

The reason, month by month, is on the Seasons page.

Logistics and capacity

The three towns are an hour and a half apart by road; the group changes hotel only once.

The lowest capacity on the route is 18 places, that of one Museo Zordan slot, and it coincides with the breaking point.

The recommended group is 15 people: it is the size that reaches the group rates without going over the access limits of the visits, which at these sites run from 18 to 20. Above 18 the itinerary splits into two slots, the day gets longer and the cost per person does not go down.

Cover

The program includes an accident and public liability policy for the whole stay. The sums insured, the insurer and the policy number are published once it is taken out and are attached to the contract; until then they can be requested in writing, with an answer within two working days.

Do you want it to count as training, with a certificate? This experience can be built into an Istituto program, with classroom hours, a piece of work to deliver and a certificate of attendance. → For groups
